Jennifer Finley

Note: Jennifer Finley is currently serving on the Board of Directors, having been appointed in 2016 by the Board to fill an unexpected vacancy. According to the CEF Bylaws, she is eligible to run for an additional 4-year term.

Work Location: Kirksville, MO

CEF Involvement:

I first discovered CEF as a seminary student and was grateful to find support both at the local level in the Western North Carolina Chapter and through the national organization when I began full time ministry in 2008. I have been a member of CEF since 2008 and have attended four of the national gatherings (2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016). I have also been privileged to serve on the CEF Board for the past two years.

Nominee's Background and Experience in Faith Formation

I hold and Mdiv with a concentration in Christian Education from Duke Divinity School and am an ordained Deacon called to ministries of Word, Service, Compassion and Justice with a particular focus in faith formation ministries. It is my experience in the local church that has given me a passion for building bridges across generations so that all ages continue to grow in faith and knowledge of God. I currently help shape the faith formation ministries of First UMC (Kirksville, MO) as the Pastor of Adult and College Age Ministry with responsibility for adult discipleship ministries and campus ministry. In previous appointments, I have served as Minister of Christian Education in a rural church setting with a focus in youth and children's ministry and as Director of Children and Family Ministry in large suburban context.

Why are you or the nominee interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

When I attended my first CEF national gathering in 2010, I walked in and my first thought was "I've found my people!" I had found the people who spoke my language and who understood the importance (and the joys and challenges) of Christian Education and faith formation.

I want others who have stepped into leadership roles in their churches, lay or clergy, to have that same sense of connection and support. I have enjoyed serving two years on the CEF board. I believe we have initiated changes that will enable us to continue helping leaders "find their people" even as our ways of connecting and doing church change. I am committed to the mission of CEF and would like to be a part of helping shape the future of the organization.

What gifts and skills does the nominee have to offer?

I find enjoyment in big picture thinking, strategic planning, and visioning for change. I am also skilled in administration and detail oriented planning. I believe I can offer both of these sets of skills on the board as the board leads CEF through the next several years.

Emily La Branche Delikat
(nominated by Brittany Sky)

Work Location: Nashville, TN

CEF Involvement:

Emily has been a part of CEF for many years. She will be teacher a workshop at CEF this year. Emily is also an innovative resource creator. I have enjoyed working with her because she seeks to create solutions for ministry as a partner. She thinks way outside of the box and helps us all to be more creatively engaged with the Spirit.

Nominee's Background and Experience in Faith Formation

Emily holds a M.A. in Christian Ministries with an emphasis in Christian Education from Asbury Theological Seminary, and a B. A. in Music from Birmingham-Southern College. Emily is the author of Piggyback Psalms: 100+ Bible Songs to Tunes You Know, and writer and editor of Deep Blue Early Elementary and Deep Blue Kids Church. Emily has more than 10 years of experience in early childhood classrooms, and has worked as Director of Music, Director of Children's Ministry, and Director of Spiritual Formation in United Methodist churches before joining The United Methodist Publishing House. She is passionate about helping children and families fully participate in the life of the church through worship, education and service. Emily lives in Franklin, TN with her husband, Andy, and her daughter, Maggie. She is a lifelong United Methodist and attends Blakemore United Methodist Church where she volunteers in worship and children's ministries.

Why are you or the nominee interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

I think Emily would add a new perspective to the group. She has energy and passion, as well as a hope for educational ministries that I think has become a rarity. I long to see CEF re-invigorated and reinvented as an organization that really does connect committed faith formation leaders. Her spirit will help ignite that fire.

What Gifts and Skills Does the Nominee Have to Offer?

She's creative, passionate, driven, called, and fun. Emily is also a talented writer, musician, and teacher. I am her supervisor at UMPH and I have only grown more impressed with Emily as she find the space to voice where God is leading her and our team.

Brittany Sky

Work Location: Nashville, TN

CEF Involvement:

I have been a part of CEF since I was an undergrad student at OCU. I value the connection with other Christian educators. There is support, collaboration, and learning that is generated when we gather. I've been to several CEF Conferences (Nashville, Louisville, etc.) and was a part of the Oklahoma City CEF monthly meetings when I lived in Oklahoma. I have stayed connected to many of my CE sheroes and heroes that I met through CEF. As I work with the children's team at UMPH, these connections often help us think through ideas and current trends. CEF has been important for all of my ministry, my growing, and my discerning.

Nominee's Background and Experience in Faith Formation

I have a BA and a MA in Christian Education. At Choctaw UMC and St. Luke's UMC in Oklahoma, I created, planned, and directed Sunday morning, weekday, and weeknight programs for hundreds children, their caregivers, and their teachers. I led volunteer training, area ministry leader training, and wrote resources for caregivers, teachers, and children. At UMPH I have created and wrote moral development resources for children ages 5-6, resources to facilitate continued learning at home for caregivers, and resources for training teachers including e-newsletters, blog posts, and social media posts. I currently lead a team of seventeen editors and designers through the ideation, development, and creation of resources for children, caregivers, and teachers. Through research and design thinking, I create new models of curricula for faith formation and facing Bible illiteracy. I was awarded the 2016 Futurist President's Award for always looking to what's next.

Why are you or the nominee interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

I would like to serve the group that has served me over the last decade. I would like to learn more from the other leaders on the board. I would also like to get reconnected with ministry leaders.

What Gifts and Skills Does the Nominee Have to Offer?

I believe I demonstrate the unique qualities needed for leadership in the rapidly changing environment of the Christian church and world. I am brave, intuitive, responsible, kind, creative, and smart. I never give up, and I believe in the good of others. I am curious and love to learn. I can look at what seems like a bleak situation and remain hopeful, because I value the creativity and progress that happens when a group of determined people get together to make a difference. I am fully committed to my continued development and growth, and I always show up with passion and energy.
